The interest rate spread plays a crucial role in shaping the performance of commercial banks, as a wider interest spread allows banks to generate higher interest income, leading to improved profitability and overall performance. However, by effectively creating liquidity, banks can expand their lending capacity and generate wider interest rate spread, which positive impacts their overall performance. The goal of this study was to determine the relationship between interest rate spread, liquidity creation and performance of commercial banks in Kenya. A descriptive research design was employed, utilizing secondary data from 38 commercial banks in Kenya spanning from 2008 to 2018. The Baron and Kenny approach, employing a random effects model, was used to assess the potential intervening effect of liquidity creation. The findings revealed a significant and positive relationship between interest rate spread and performance of the banks; however, the results indicated that liquidity creation did not act as an intervening variable in this relationship.

Purpose: The study examines how firm characteristics moderates the relationship between corporate sustainability reporting and financial performance of companies listed at the Nairobi Securities Exchange.
Methodology: The target population comprised sixty-seven listed firms in Kenya. Secondary data was collected from published financial reports and company accounts filed at the Capital Markets Authority as at 31 December, 2020. Out of the sixty-seven companies, only forty-nine companies met the data requirement of the study. The study applied the Global Reporting Initiative framework establish the corporate sustainability reporting scores and the sustainability reporting index. Inferential and descriptive analysis was performed by E-views and SPSS. Moderation effect analysis was guided by Baron and Kenny (1986) steps of moderation.
Findings: Based on the study’s findings, it was established that firm size has a statistically positive moderation effect on the relationship between the corporate sustainability reporting and the ROA. Additionally, the study also found out that the firm age has a statistically negative moderation on the corporate sustainability reporting-ROA relationship.
Implications: The managers and board of directors of corporates gain insight from the study results and use the findings as a justification towards aggressively engaging in corporate sustainability reporting and disclosures. The results show that companies that participate in sustainability reporting have a larger and a growing asset base, have a long standing and/or going concern and they tend to make high quality sustainability reports and disclosures. The findings also show that older companies were slow in reporting on sustainability reporting. Newer firms were aggressively participating in corporate sustainability reporting compared to older firms. The older firms were slow in adopting the corporate sustainability reporting concept and therefore there is a need make reporting on sustainability mandatory for all listed and non-listed companies. Further research can be extended to include other firm characteristic indicators such as firm liquidity and leverage. Further research can also be extended to include other moderators such as organization culture and stakeholder management. Research can also be extended to test the effect of corporate sustainability reporting on ROE, ROI, ROCE, Sales growth and Tobin’s Q as other financial performance measures.

There is an intense infiltration of social networking platforms (SNPs) in the education sector. However, there are inadequate empirical studies to inform integration of these platforms in teaching and learning. The purpose of this study was to establish the relationship between the learner attitude towards the use of Facebook Social Networking Platform (FSNP) and academic achievement in computer programming. The study targeted form three students taking Computer Studies. Quantitative data was obtained using pre-test and post-tests scores. Likert scale pre-attitude and post-attitude questionnaires were used to obtain qualitative data. Purposive sampling was used to obtain 250 students from 3 boys’ and 3 girls’ public secondary schools offering Computer Studies. Descriptive statistics computed included frequencies and means. Inferential statistics included t tests and Pearson’s Correlation Coefficient (r). Findings revealed a positive relationship between learner attitude towards the use of FSNP as a learning resource and learner academic achievement as demonstrated by t statistic [t (4) = 9.992, p = .000] for pretest and [t (4) = 93.958, p = .000] for the post-test mean scores. The correlation coefficients, r = 0.555 and r = 0.958 for the pre-attitude/pre-test and post-attitude/post-test implied a positive change in correlation between academic achievement and the learner attitude towards using FSNP as a learning resource. The study concluded that there is a positive relationship between learner attitude towards the use of FSNP and learner academic achievement. The study recommends that schools and should embrace the use of FSNP in teaching and learning.

There is a dearth of documented evidence on ChatGPT affordances’ influence on students’ adaptive learning experiences. This study sought to examine the influence of ChatGPT affordances on adaptive learning experiences among undergraduate religious education teacher trainees at the University of Nairobi. The study’s objective was to investigate how learner engagement on ChatGPT influences adaptive learning experiences among undergraduate Religious Education teacher trainees. The study was guided by Vygotsky’s theory of Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD) and the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM). The study adopted a descriptive research design. A purposive sampling technique was employed to obtain 234 respondents from a target population of 628 undergraduate religious education teacher trainees at the University of Nairobi. A student questionnaire and an interview schedule were used to collect data. Data collected was analyzed using inferential and descriptive statistical analysis with the aid of the SPSS version 24 package. The study’s findings revealed that learner engagement on ChatGPT positively influenced adaptive learning experiences among undergraduate Religious Education teacher trainees. The study concluded that ChatGPT technology has educational affordances that enable students to generate and obtain several search results in summarized chunks virtually in every concept searched, making them emotionally, cognitively, and behaviorally engaged, thus enhancing their adaptive learning experiences. The study recommended that higher education institutions should embrace the use of ChatGPT as a complementary instructional resource to support teaching and learning processes instead of focusing on the adversities associated with the technology.
