Employee Motivation and Work Performance in Lake Victoria South Water Services Board, Kisumu-kenya
Abstract
Work performance in an organization rests at the back of employees who have to realize the importance of meeting the goals and objectives of an organization. Thus this study investigated “employee motivation and work performance in Lake Victoria South Water Services Board in Kisumu-Kenya”. The study was anchored on Equity and Expectancy theories. “A descriptive survey design” was used. The population targeted included 140 staff of Lake Victoria South Water Services Board. In data collection, a likert scale questionnaires were used. Data analysis was done using Factor analysis and descriptive statistics. The study found that increment of salary, training employees and developing them, promotions and security of a job are the four main factors which influence employees’ work performance in Lake Victoria South Water Services Board. It was established that the salary increment influence up to 66.3 % of the total variability while it was noted that job security influence up to 79.8 of the total variability, staff training and development influence up to 81% of the total variability and employees’ promotions influenced up to 82.4% of the total variability. The study recommends that the of Lake Victoria South Water Services Board Directors should review and implement internal policies on motivation of employees which could enhance employee performance which ultimately could lead to high performance and Lake Victoria South Water Services Board management should develop effective ways of motivating its employees such as increased payments, creating good working environment of employees and improving the security
