This study therefore aims at investigating factors that influence the performance of NOO in mitigation of poverty in Garissa county. Three research questions were formulated to guide the study. This study used descriptive survey design. The study targeted the 4 NOOs working in the district where three head of departments from each organization were used in the study. Other stakeholders who were targeted were the religious organizations where 10 were sampled. The study sampled 12 head of department from the NOOs and 10 religious leaders. The data was collected using questionnaires and interview schedules. Findings revealed that the level of intervention of the NOO in poverty mitigation was not very effective. It was also concluded that institutions such as families, schools, orphanages and self help groups had benefited from the NOO intervention. The study concluded that The local communities had created linkages to a great extent. The local communities had also been able to create networking linkages that have come as a result of NOOs intervention in poverty mitigation to a great extent. The study also revealed that scaling up program intervention in poverty mitigation indicated that the expansion of programmes being implemented by NOOs had led to greater reduction of poverty in Garrissa County. It was also revealed that NOO had been fully supported by the local administration although they faced difficulties in implementing their activities due to social discrimination in the county. The study also concluded that harsh environmental conditions negatively influenced NOO's performance in poverty mitigation. Based on the findings the study recommended that there is need for the NOOs to create linkages with the local community in their operations through assessment of what the communities may require. It was also recommended for the need of scaling up the poverty mitigation programmes in the county as many people will benefit from the programmes. The study recommended that the need to educate the local people to work together with the organizations and take a common responsibility in the poverty mitigation programmes. Lastly it was recommended that the NOOs should invent ways of reaching the communities by initiating programs that are in line with the lifestyle of the people.en_US
