A Survey of the Impact of Fibre Optic Cable in Relation to Organization Cost and Ict Capabilities
Abstract
Information Communication Technology (ICT) is a powerful force in today's global society. It is essential to determine new ways to grow in business. An understanding of the effective and responsible use of management information systems and technologies is important for business managers and other business professionals. The main purpose of the study was to establish the impact of fiber optic cable in relation to organization cost and ICT capabilities.
The study design used was descriptive survey. The target population for this study was the ICT managers and, business manager from firms quoted at the Nairobi Stock Exchange (N.S.E). A structured questionnaire was used to collect the primary data. Descriptive and inferential analyses were applied and data collected was analyzed using Linregression method.
The study established that companies had benefited from the internal use as a result of fiber optic cable installation.
Fiber optic installation and usage had improved ICT capabilities (internal use, collaboration and communication) in the organizations. It was also found out that fiber optic technology reduced the organizations cost structure, besides it was established that most companies' internet connection relied on fiber optic cable links through the Internet service providers (IPS). This had improved efficiency, reliability, cost saving and speed of operations in the organizations.
