Factors influencing implementation of construction projects in public institutions in Ainamoi sub county, Kericho county
Abstract
The study aimed at assessing the factors influencing implementation of construction projects in
public institutions in Ainamoi sub-county, Kericho County. Effective implementation of
construction projects is very significant in social economic development and a great contribution
to the development agenda of the 2030 vision in Kenya. However, the increasing number of
stalled projects in Kenya remains a matter of great concern. This study therefore was meant to
assess the main factors influencing implementation of construction projects in public institutions
in Ainamoi sub-county, Kericho County. The objectives of the study include; explore the extent
to which PMC training influences implementation of construction projects, assess the influence
of funding on implementation of construction projects, to investigate the extent to which project
governance influences implementation of construction projects and lastly to evaluate the
influence of PMC involvement on implementation of construction projects in Ainamoi Sub
County. The study took a descriptive approach with both qualitative and quantitative aspects.
The area of the study was Ainamoi Sub County in Kericho County; the target population
included; PMC members who were implementing construction projects in Ainamoi Sub County.
The sample size was calculated using Mugenda & Mugenda approach; a sample size of 10% of
the target population (1386) was drawn using stratified random sampling techniques on basis of
distinctive project categories giving rise to 139 respondents. The data collection instrument was
questionnaire. Data analyzed using descriptive statistics generating frequencies and percentages.
Data analysis was aided by statistical packages of social scientist (SPSS). The study revealed that
PMC training, funding, accessibility to information, and stakeholder involvement had significant
positive influence in implementation of construction projects in public institutions in Ainamoi
Sub County. The recommendations of this study include; formulate policies that emphasize
specialize training of various stakeholder groups; project teams and managers implementing
projects. It also recommends further research on the influence of culture and political factors.
