Influence of competitive strategies on the performance of Bata Kenya Limited
Abstract
Strategy formulation and implementation is at the centre of organization performance, a
situation that has led organizations to adopt strategic measures aligned to an organization
strategic priority. In light of increased recognition of the role of strategy implementation
on organization performance, this study was conducted to establish the influence of
competitive strategies on the performance of Bata Limited in Kenya. Resource-based
theory and Porter’s Competitive Model guided the study. Case study design was applied in
the research with semi-structured interviews. Given the nature of the study an interview
guide was used in data collection process, with a total of 15 managers interviewed. The
study findings showed that Bata Limited has adopted competitive strategies in terms of
process, organizational and market strategies. The findings also revealed that
implementation of competitive strategies has helped improve the financial and operational
performance of Bata Kenya Limited. The study concluded that adoption of competitive
strategies contributes to improved performance within the organisation. The study
recommends that organizations should constantly invent and adopt different competitive
strategies as a way of improving organization performance.
