dc.description.abstractThe study's objective was to investigate the effect of strategic leadership and organisational performance of state corporations and departments in the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure Housing Urban Development, and Public Works. The specific objectives were to determine the impact of effective decision-making, resource allocation, strategic intent and Vision, and balanced organisational control on organisation performance. The study was anchored on two theories: Upper Echelon and Technical, social theories. The research design was adopted as cross-sectional. Thirtyfive state corporations within the Ministry of transport, housing, infrastructure, public works and urban development of Kenya formed the population of the study. From the study findings, strategic leadership dimensions were positively established to affect organisational performance. In addition, the study finding has shown that there was a positive relationship between effective resource management and organisational performance in the Ministry of Transport, Housing, Infrastructure, Public Works and Urban Development of Kenya. Secondly, the study established that effective decisionmaking as a dimension of strategic leadership drives organisational performance to a greater height. From the summary of research findings and conclusion, the study recommends that strategic leadership is a critical organisational performance-determining factor. As a result, the Ministry of Transport, Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, and Public Works should consider enhancing strategies that support strategic leadership to improve short-term and long-term organisational performance. Furthermore, the recruitment of a top management team should be oriented towards leadership characteristics that portray strategic intent and Vision, balanced managerial control, effective decision-making and effective resource allocation.en_US
