This thesis examines the traffic control system for the City of Nairobi projected up to the year 1985. The various traffic control methods and their applications to the City of Nairobi are presented. A mathematical model for the traffic flow in the City has been constructed with the available data; and simulated on a digital computer. The model involves variables traffic flow, number of cars registered, population, per capita income etc., and is used to study the problems associated with the present and future traffic conditions in Nairobi. In view of the increasing traffic, a new traffic signal system is proposed and the signal phasing scheme for all the intersections has been designed.en
