The gender-blind and discriminatory nature of Kenyan laws, including the constitution, prompted ProfMbote to get involved in the constitution-making process in which she seized the opportunity to rectify this situation. As a lecturer and researcher, ProfMbote has conducted research on gender issues. Prof Mbote, Prof. Maria Nzomo, and Prof. Jacquiline Oduor were among the women scholars who appeared before the Constitution of Kenya Review Commission (CKRC) to make a case on the significance of including gender in the constitution. She worked closely with others women pathfinders in the women’s movement to safeguard women’s agenda in the constitution making process in Kenya.en_US
