This study examines the Kenya-Somalia maritime dispute and the economic development in the horn of Africa. The maritime dispute which has existed for several decades has had a lot of effects on the economies and social relations to both Kenya and Somalia. Some of these effects are bad diplomatic relations, loss of income, and poor living standards for fishing communities. Several international organizations have intervened to help solve the dispute. They include United Nations, European Union, and IGAD. There have been challenges that have made it difficult for the various interventions to be successful. The challenges include sovereignty and self-interest, severance of diplomatic ties, enforceability of international law, and prolonged court case.en_US
