dc.description.abstractEnglish is among the compulsory subjects in the Kenya secondary school curriculum. It is significant as a medium of instruction and communication. At the secondary level it is taught and examined as an integrated subject. That is the Language section and Literature parts being taught and examined as one English subject. It is notable the performance of English Language at Kenya certificate education (K C S E) has been poor for several years. The main objective of the study was to investigate factors influencing poor performance in English Language in Meru North. The interest and concern of the researcher to students performance of English Language was strongly prompted by the continued poor performance in K C S E examination, and the researcher teaches English in one of the school district.
