The main purpose of this study was to find out the impact of Theological Education by extension on adult learners in Limuru Presbytery of Kiambu district. The study sought to fulfil six main objectives, namely, to: identify the challenges facing learners and their families; determine how TEE changes adult learner's perception of themselves and their position in the society; establish how TEE can help the adult learners to rediscover themselves, their capabilities and talents; find how TEE enhances the learners faith in God and finally, solicit suggestions from the learners on how TEE can be improved. The research study was guided by research questions, which were relevant to the objectives ofthe study. Literature review of the study covered its historical background, examined adult education in the world by looking at Freire's philosophy as a basis of understanding Mezirow's transformative theory oflearning. The review then covered adult education in Africa, Kenya and purpose of adult education. Finally the role of the church in the provision of adult education. Literature review indicated though there has been a lot of research carried out in adult education, very little research has been done in adult education in the church. The data was collected through questionnaires lhd iaterviews. The instruments had been ~- pre - tested with members of the target population and was aproved as valid by experts before being administered in the field. Based on the study data, the following were the findings of the study: that the major challenge facing TEE adult learners is lack of adequate time for study; that adult learners experienced financial constrains in purchasing study materials and found it difficult to balance studies and work, that adult learners improved their social relations, gained v wisdom to deal with issues and gained high self esteem; that adult learners got deeper understanding of the word of God, gained confidence in dealing with issues and general enlightenment; that learners gained new theological insight, learnt history of their church and learnt the importance of prayer. Drawing from its findings, the study recommended: that time taken to complete one book should be reduced; that quality of questions both in weekly tests and examinations should be improved. Improvement should be in terms of quality of paper used and setting well thought out questions for easy reading; that a seal should be put on certificates awarded and for higher diploma, a certificate should be awarded after every book studied; that the course books should be revised and the TEE office set a specific time to discuss the course with every new group.en
