dc.description.abstractThis study sets out to verify the extent to which Cartwright site assemblage belongs to the Middle Stone Age period. The sources of data used included library research and laboratory analysis of the excavated material from the site. The methodology used included sorting and sampling of the assemblage and an application of attribute analysis method. According to this method it was found out that there are similarities in attributes between Cartwright site and other known Middle Stone Age assemblages like Prospect Farm. On this basis it is concluded that Cartwright assemblage is a Middle Stone Age assemblage. Chapter Format The study is presented in four chapters:- Chapter one is an introduction to the study. It gives background information to the site and provides the problem and hypothesis tested. Operational definitions are also presented. 40, Chapter two discusses the methodology used to analyze the -. assemblage. Chapter three deals with the analysis of the data. Measurements of individual artefacts are presented and discussed. Chapter four presents the synthesis of the information derived from the analysis. It also summarizes and concludes the research carried out.en
