dc.description.abstract | This was a survey kind of study. The major purposes of this study were to establish the level of
job satisfaction among staff in Grade A-F in the University of Nairobi and secondly to identify
the factors that influence their job satisfaction. Data was collected using a questionnaire and
descriptive statistics and frequencies were used in the data analysis.
The following conclusions were made: First, majority of the employees had worked in the
university for more than 20 years and in their productive ages. Secondly, the grade A-F
employees in the university are actually dissatisfied with their level of salary with respect to
experience. Thirdly, the employees are not afraid of what might happen if they quit job without
another one lined up. Fourthly, the level of job satisfaction affects the grade A-F employees'
performance since when they are satisfied they give the best, it take less energy and with speed,
and their performance has been diminishing since they feel they are poorly paid, the personal
skills are not recognized, they cannot work for extra hours, there are poor working conditions,
there is lack of emotional and financial support and nobody is concerned with the efforts they
put.

Fifthly, some of the factors that have dissatisfied the grade A-F employees in the university of - Nairobi were found to be the bureaucracy in the university, the low recognition, the way
promotions are given and conducted, old and invaluable culture of the management. Lastly, some
of the determinants of job satisfaction with the grade A-F employees are the policies easier to
understand, the supervisors in the department possess leadership" skills, the supervisors treat
employees fairly, the department has clear policies related to salaries, raises and bonuses. One of
the recommendations is to treat all employees equally without discrimination and improve the
poor working conditions with clear job description. | en |
