dc.description.abstract | Ever-evolving and increasingly powerful Information and Communication Technologies
(lCT) have fundamentally changed the nature of global relationships, sources of
competitive advantage and opportunities for economic and social development. The
explosion of the ICT has resulted in a world in which virtually everyone, everywhere, has
the potential to reap the benefits of ICT connectivity.
New value propositions based upon ICT emerge as individual in the private and
government business begin to accept and understand their usefulness.
ICT adoption and application provides new ways to do business; it creates new
opportunities for the firms, eliminate barriers that had traditionally stifled flows of
information and promote efficiency in a host of activities. ICT have become a
tremendous engine for economic growth and productivity.
This study investigated the extent of adoption of ICT in state corporations. The extent of
adoption of ICT determined was an indication of the level of readiness for corporations to
participate in networked digital economy.
Questionnaire was developed to be able to collect data on the following four critical areas
of ICT adoptions and application namely networked access (Internet connectivity)
Infrastructure; e-Champion or e-Leadership- and policy infrastructure; human capacity
development infrastructure; information security and -t.elecommunication regulation Infrastructure. The data was collected from 50% of the total state corporations
population.
The results obtained from the analysis indicated to a large extent that the state
corporations were below level 34% of ICT adoption. That means that, the state
corporations were in the second lowest level of readiness to use ICT to achieve
competitive advantage that is geared towards improving the quality and responsiveness of
the services, minimize inefficiencies and increase transparency. | en |
