This study was conducted to assess the relationship between stock market returns and real economic activity in the economy. Data was collected from the Nairobi Stock Exchange and from the Central Bureau of Statistics. The study covered the period 1998 to 2004. The stock market returns were regressed against production figures and empirically tested. The analysis revealed that there was positive correlation between stock returns and real activity, and that future production can explain present returns.en
