Case records and commentaries in obstetrics and gynaecology
Abstract
52/1893 (2.7%) of women attending two Nairobi family planning
clinics were HPV positive as determi ned by cerv ica 1 cyto logy.
Factors associated with HPV positivity were current oral
contraceptive (OC) use (OR = 2.1, 95% CI 1.2-3.9); ever use of OC
(OR = 2.3, 95% CI 1.1-5.0); HPV infection was associated positively
with CIN disease of cervix (OR = 28.9, 95% CI 12.6-65.7). These
positive associations persisted after stratified analysis to
control for confounding factors such as sexual activity and age.
This study did not demonstrate any significant association between
HPV and other forms of contraception such as condom, depo-provera,
intrauter.ine device etc.
