dc.description.abstractThe provision of education and training to all Kenyans is fundamental to the success of the government's overall development-strategy. The long-term objective ofthe government is to provide every Kenyan with basic quality education and training. The rate of population growth and low economic growth in the recent past has outstripped the provision of various services in the country. Educational sector has been hard-hit. To address the problem, the government allowed an increased private sector participation which has seen the establishment of forty three (43) private universities and many tertiary colleges in the country, most of these institutions being located in urban centers The purpose of this study is to assess the impacts of the institutions of higher learning on urban centers. The study has taken a case study of Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology located in Juja town in Thika district. The study starts with the research setup and gives introduction to the study, the problem statement, objectives, hypothesis and methodology. Chapter two gives comprehensive review of the related literature. Chapter three gives information on the case study area. Data presentation and analysis are given in chapter four and last chapter, chapter five gives the findings, conclusions and recommendations.en
