Selection criteria and planning approaches to the rural trade and production centres A case study of Luanda
Abstract
This study sets out to establish and test the criteria for selecting
·Rural Trade and Production Centres. The study area is Luanda in
Kakamega District. Jhe study was conducted by collecting data on
relationships between the centre and the hinterland in terms of
agriculture, trade and industrial activities. The relationships
among.various sectors of the economy at Luanda was es.tablished. It
was visualized that an urban centre whose economy has potential resouces
for expansion can be internally stimulated and supported by
service provision.
The results showed that in order to set a viable RTPe
consideration should go to the potential rather that service
provision. The method adopted for this study is appropriate for
selecting and planning for Rural Trade and Production Centres.
