Rural development is necessary in Third World
Countries because the majority of their population
are the rural dwellers.The Kenyan Government therefore, has used various strategies since its independence as shown by the
national Development Plans, to enhance Rural
Development.The current National Development Plan
( 1989/93) District Focus for Rural Development' intends
to encourage local initiatives.
Women,s Groups form the majority of local
initiatives, for women are the majority of the rural
dwellers. However, according to various researchers,
the Rural - Based Women's Groups a re faced with many
problems,thus,they are ineffective.This thesis tries t.o look into the ways through
Which the activities 0f the . Rural based women group's could be improved.in this respect t a sample has
been taken from the Rural Based Women's Groups of
the Central Alego Location. 'This Location has many
female headed house holds and is affected with
malnutrition.
