The main objective of the study was to assess the place of refugee management in national security strategy in Kenya. The study was guided by two hypotheses; the presence of refugees is part of a wider web of legal, political and human security issues that affect Kenya's security strategy and regional security issues that lead to forceful migration of populations are strategy. The study was guided by three theories; realist theory, systems theory and human security paradigm theory. The research indicated that, most of the refugees that came to Kenya, were members of umed groups that were fighting in their home countries. Since they could not divorce rom their military skills most of them would militarize and maintain contacts with the fighting groups. This allowed proliferation of small arms and light weapons that has threatened the local residents of Kenya and affected the national security strategy of the country. This impacted on local security of the Kenyan people. The study also extensively discussed approaches that the government of Kenya took to manage refugees living in Kenya and finally discussed the impact of refugees on the national strategic plan then raised the recommendations on what Kenya should do to ensure protection of refugees and the local citizens.en_US
