dc.description.abstractThis study was conducted to assess the influence of university expansion on service delivery: a case of university of Nairobi extra mural centers. With expansion of universities, m.any medieval universities were run for hundreds of years as Christian cathedral schools or monastic schools prior to expansion, early modern period universities of Europe would see a tremendous amount of growth, productivity and innovative research including Harvard the oldest institution of higher education in the United States (USA) has grown from nine students with a single master to an enrollment of more than 20,000 degree candidates including undergraduate, graduate, and professional students. University of Nairobi has also seen tremendous growth in expansion which has seen it face a number of challenges in service delivery as the government has reduced its funding to public tertiary institution hence the study investigate on how the university of Nairobi is addressing this challenges in its expansion to meet customer satisfaction in its service delivery. The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of public university regional expansion strategy on service delivery. The objectives of the study were to investigate the influence of opening regional centers of education on service delivery, influence of increased student's enrollment on service deliver, influence of library facilities on service delivery as well as the influence of computers labs on service delivery. Descriptive survey method of collecting information by administering a questionnaire was used on target population of 2902 respondents constituting a sample size of 379 respondents who included students, part time lecturers and support staff of extra mural department. Data was collected through questionnaire. Data was later analyzed by employing content analysis which involved use of SPSS version to generate percentages and frequencies. Qualitative and quantitative techniques were used to analyze the sample data and general information. Qualitative method involved classifying and summarizing the sample data and general information, quantitative method was used to explore and describe the strength, direction and significance of linear relationship between variables relating to aspects of influence of university expansion strategy on library, teaching and learning and support service delivery, and respondents characteristics and drawing conclusions and recommendations from the study.en_US
