The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of drug abuse on discipline among students in public secondary schools in Nairobi North District, Nairobi Province. Specifically to establish the types of drugs abused by students in public secondary schools' in Nairobi North District, investigate the outcome behaviour of students at school when they consume the drugs, and identify the intervention strategies used by the schools administration to prevent drug abuse prevalence. The study adopted the social learning theory associated with Bandura (1977). The study targeted all the public secondary schools in Nairobi North District represented by t 6 secondary schools with a population of 16 headteachers, 16 counseling and guidance teachers and 2234 students. A sample of 16 headteachers, 16 guidance and counseling teachers 'and 234 students was selected using purposive simple random sampling technique. A total of 266 questionnaires were distributed and out of which 230 questionnaires were returned giving a response rate of 86%. The returned questionnaires were coded, cleaned and analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) and data presented using tables. The study established that drug abuse was prevalent in the district. The drugs abused included Alcohol, Bhang, Miraa, Cigarettes, Hashish, Marijuana, Heroine, Tobacco, Shisha and Khat. The drugs made students be absent minded in the class, being angry and confused, hallucination, some students got overactive, eating a lot, fighting, sleeping, laughing too much, less interest in studies, and Iow self esteem. To some students, eyes turned red and sleepy, others saw themselves more superior, others became talkative at some point and dull during lessons, while others developed bad temper. The study found out that truancy, indiscipline, poor healthy, being antisocial, deterioration in academic performance, low self esteem dropping out of the school, loss of memory, rudeness, and dropping out of school were the most common problems. On suggested solutions, the study proposed early education on drugs, more time and activities be created for sensitization through media, village barazas, and churches on the negative effects of drug abuse. And more peer counseling groups to be set in the schools.en_US
