| dc.description.abstract | The primary goal of this study was to explore the contours of international business tourism development vis-a-vis their economic impact on urban economies, with special focus on Kenya. This goal was achieved firstly through an overview of the Meetings, Incentives, Conferencing· and Exhibitions (MICE) industry in Kenya. Secondly, a literature review was conducted to determine the aspects in the literature that are today regarded as of vital importance in the international business tourism sector.
Lastly, conclusions were drawn from the research and recommendations were made with regard to further research. From the literature review, a number of features of MICE tourism industry are identified as being important in the success of international business tourism in Kenya. These aspects are used to compile a questionnaire. The objective of the questionnaire was to measure the contribution of these elements to the Nairobi urban economy.
The study population consisted of stakeholders such as KICC, Hotels, Tour Companies, and Event Organizers. From the research it can be deduced that international business tourism has a direct effect on the economic development of Nairobi, largely due to the multiplier effects associated with tourist spending. The study provided recommendations to the vanous stakeholders in the tourism industry in Kenya to make the MICE industry competitive. | en_US |
