dc.description.abstract | Twenty-five commercial wheat varieties and four introduced lines were tested for tolerance to drought in Kenya from 1989 to 1992 at Kajiado, Katumani and Naivasha. Performance varied significantly amongst these cultivars as well as across locations. K. Mbweha, K. Chririku and Mbuni performed best amongst the commercial varieties. Mbuni, for example, had a mean yield of 3.9 t.ha. R672 and R674 performed best amongst the introductions with average yields of 3.7 and 3.5 t/ha, respectively. Further comparative testing of these lines is needed to ascertain the stability of their agronomic performance in these marginal environments. | en |
