The role of truth commissions in reconciling post conflict societies: a case study of the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission
Abstract
The research critically examines the reconciliation process as one the ways to build peace with the aim of finding out what it really means to reconcile post-conflict societies. The study critically looks at truth, justice and peace with the aim of finding out how they are incorporated in the reconciliation process. As one the methods used to achieving reconciliation the study critically analysis truth and reconciliation commissions, where the study further looks at some examples of truth commissions, with the aim of finding out under what circumstances they were formed and if at all they managed bring reconciliation to their respective countries.
The research takes on the South African truth and reconciliation commission, where it is critical examined and conclusions about whether it fails or succeeds are drawn based on the findings found.
