dc.description.abstractThe study investigated the influence of headteachers’ leadership styles on pupils performance in Kenya Certificate of Primary Education in Kathiani District, Kenya. It sought to establish the leadership styles employed by primary school head teachers, the extent to which primary school headteachers leadership styles influence performance in KCPE, the effectiveness of primary school headteachers leadership styles and the extent to which primary school headteachers involve teachers in decision making in Kathiani District. The study used descriptive survey design. The choice of this design is based on the fact that the purpose of the study is to explore the influence of headteachers administrative styles on the performance in Kenya certificate of primary education in Kathiani district. Those who participated in the study were 24 headteachers and 228 teachers. The researcher used questionnaires as the research instruments. To ascertain the validity the instruments were discussed with the supervisors. To ascertain the reliability of the instruments of the researcher employed test-retest technique. To collect the data, the researcher obtained a permit from the national council of science and technology. Quantitative data was analysed using statistical package for social science and the results were presented using frequency tables, pie charts, bar graphs and percentages. Qualitative data was analyzed by organizing data into themes, patterns and subtopics. Findings of the study were that most of the headteachers in Kathiani District used democratic leadership stylesen
