The purpose of this project was to develop a computerized system that would analyse the level of the 'unaccounted for water' in the current Nairobi Area Supply systell. In the iine! analysis, the system was to use the existing production and consumption data. The project concentrated in the normalization of consumption data to make it more usable for this analysis. That is, to restructure the discrete format of consumption data into a continuous format, comparable to the production data. The results of normalization were represented graphically, and moving mean of order three was used to overcome further fluctuations that existed in the data. It was realized that direct comparison could not be conducted immediately, as this required further field tests that were beyond the project scope. Despite this factor, the aim of the project were realized to a great extent. The system implementation on test data gave regular cycles and continuous data. The system was recommended for use In trend analysis. No visible trend was observed on the test data, and this might have been contrIbuted to by the small set of data used. It was recommended that more data be abstracted and moving mean of order twelve be used. Field tests should be done on meters and information made available, so that this system could be implemented fully.en
