dc.description.abstract | This research paper constitutes an investigative study into fostering of innovation and its adaptation in the Kenya construction industry, with special regard to the Building and Civil Engineering Contractors in Nairobi. There are five chapters to this study. The first set comprises the introductory chapter covering the general introduction of the study. This section could be regarded as the back bone of the study setting out the problem statement, the objectives of the study, hypothesis, the scope and the significance of the study. Chapter two centers on the literature review especially as regards to the construction technology innovation and its adoption in the Kenya construction
industry in particular. Chapter three is the research methodology Chapter four of this paper could be regarded as the vital core of the study dealing with data analysis and presentation. And finally chapter five gives the conclusion and recommendations. To carry out the study, both contractors and consultants in the construction industry were visited, and questionnaires administered to them.
The data and information for these studies were collected, by research assistants and myself. The research assistants were final year students at the University of Nairobi drawn from the College of Architecture and Engineering. The respondents to be questioned were arrived after carrying out simple random sampling on each category. The data collected from the Architects, Quantity surveyors, Engineers and Building and Civil contractors were analyzed using frequency descriptive statistics(mean, mode, median etc) correlation and regression analyses. Upon analysis with the aid of SPSS (Statistical Package for Social sciences, version. 10), software, the results were then presented in the form of bar Charts, Pie Charts, frequency tables, and Histograms.
The research Hypothesis was tested using the Correlation coefficient methods to
test the correlation between Construction Technology Innovation and its adoption
(dependent Variable) and Organisation Structures (independent Variable). Which
revealed that their was high correlation and thus our research hypothesis was
accepted as being true and applicable to the Kenyan construction Industry.
Chapter five entails the conclusion and the recommendation emanating from the
results. After the results it was concluded that there exist a strong correlation
between innovation or its adoption and the forms of Organisational Structures in
the Kenyan construction Industry. Various recommendation have been suggested
that can foster innovations or Innovation adoption in the Kenyan Construction
Industry. Suggested areas for further studies (that are fairly related with this study), have
also been included for future researchers wishing to pursue this topic even further | en_US |
