dc.description.abstractGas/steam turbine combined-cycle and cogeneration plants embrace the total energy concept which seeks to utilize to the maximum the energy available in a system. The technology used for a given duty depends partly on the original nature of the business and on the demands of society. In this paper, the potential economic performances of combined-cycle and cogeneration proposals for providing power at the pumping stations along Kenya oil pipelines are compared. Although a small-scale proposal may turn out not to be economically viable now, it may nevertheless be expedient to go ahead with the investment in an attempt to develop the country's socioeconomic structures.en_US
