dc.description.abstract | Kayole market, since its construction back in 2011 did not attract traders.
the stalls that were built for the traders have continued to remain idle and have been converted to toilets and hideouts for thugs who engage in criminal activities in this area. the land on which the facility sits on has been overgrown with grass and the facility thus has remained unviable and does not serve the intended purpose. this state of things has been contributed by the fact that the facility was built in area where a market could not thrive. This project thus seeks to relocate Kayole market from
that site to the Sagana bus terminus where a small informal market is slowly developing. the bus terminus will provide a certain percentage of consumers for the goods to be
sold in this market. The project seeks to achieve the following key objectives:To develop a programme that facilitates the relocation of market activity from the current site to the Sagana bus terminus while at the same time terminating all market activities from the previous site;to develop a framework for the project features and components into their spatial and physical attributes with regard to implementation;to come up with a policy, regulatory and design guidelines framework for the development and implementation of the project and finally to develop a detailed project implementation, monitoring and evaluation framework. The development project therefore demonstrates a practical method of developing markets in urban areas and how the market can be integrated to fit into the neighbourhood context | en_US |
