dc.description.abstractThe SONU 2014 nomination papers will be returned in designated places in the contestant’s respective campuses on Thursday 27th and Friday 28th March 2014. I urge all those interested in contesting for various positions in SONU 2014 election to familiarize themselves with the provisions in article 19 of the SONU 2014 Constitution on qualifications of candidates and pay due diligence to ensure that they have fulfilled the specified conditions. The designated student and staff commissioners in each campus will verify that all prospective candidates have met the requirements, sign the nomination form and submit the same to the Secretariat for publication by the Electoral Commission. Here below is a checklist: Nomination papers for Executive position must be signed by the candidate, proposer and 500 seconders Nomination papers for non-executive position must be signed by the candidate, proposer and 50 seconders Candidates vying for executive position must show evidence of having paid a fee amounting to Kshs 3250 to the University account (attach payment receipt) Candidates vying for non-executive position must show evidence of having paid a fee amounting to Kshs 1000 to the University account (attach payment receipt) Candidates vying for any position must show evidence that they are duly registered students at University of Nairobi (attach copy of student ID) The position of the chairman and Vice Chairman shall be in one nomination form and shall not be of the same gender A candidate contesting for a post as a halls representative shall be a resident of the hall that he/she is contesting A candidate contesting for a post as Faculty/School/institute representative shall be a student of the constituency that he/she is contesting A candidate shall stand for only one position A candidate shall stand for any executive position if he or she has been a member of SONU for at least one year A candidate shall not be eligible to contest for the same executive position more than once in 10 years A candidate should be available to serve for a full academic year All candidates to submit a certificate of good conduct from the office of the Dean of Students All candidates to submit a certificate of good academic record from the Dean of Faculty where they are registered For SONU 2014 elections, the following positions are reserved for female gender - Secretary - Gender affairs - Secretary - Academic Affairs - Secretary - Finance - Secretary - Health and Environment PROF.
