dc.description.abstractThis paper presents a project approach to develop appropriate scientific and economic tools for improving farming systems in the Kenyan Lake basin. This approach aims to address poverty through livelihood strengthening with emphasis on environmental and natural resource management. The appropriate sequence in attaining an improved farming system, general tools for poverty reduction, social extension tools, economic tools, tools for management and administration, tools for linkage arrangements, policy tools, and tools for assessment and impact analysis, are outlined.en_US
