Protein-calorie malnutrition: a study of red blood cell and serum enzymes during and after crisis.
Abstract
Studies were with 12 children, 0.5 to 4 years old, with kwashiorkor and given milk, eggs, sugar and vitamins. Dietary treatment increased to normal the initial low values of glutathione-NADPH reductase, glutathione peroxidase, aspartate and alanine aminotransferases of red blood cells and cholinesterase, catecholamine oxidase, total protein, albumin, urea, Na+, K+ and HCO3- of plasma.
