dc.description.abstract | A brief account is given of trypanosomiasis (Trypanosoma rhodesiense) in the Lambwe Valley, Kenya. The parasite was introduced from the Busoga district of Uganda in the early 1950s and cases of trypanosomiasis, first diagnosed in 1960, increased up to 1967-1970 when a vector control programme was implemented. The number of cases then decreased, but the area remains endemic. An outbreak involving 63 new cases occurred in 1980 in the Gwasi area; it was preceded by the death of cattle. | en_US |
