dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this research study is to investigate the influence of Board of Management practices on physical infrastructure development of public secondary schools in Kasarani Sub-county in Nairobi County, Kenya. The study was guided by the following specific research objectives: to determine the influence of partnership between Board of Management and development partners on physical infrastructure development of public secondary schools in Kasarani Sub-county, to establish the influence of budgetary control on physical infrastructure development of public secondary schools in Kasarani Sub-county, to establish the influence of soliciting for funds by Board of Management influence physical infrastructure development of public secondary schools in Kasarani Sub-county and to examine the influence of monitoring on physical infrastructure development of public secondary schools in Kasarani Sub-county. The study sought to establish the effects of partnerships with development partners on physical infrastructure development. From the findings partnership between BOM partners and development partners has a significant influence on physical infrastructure in development schools. The study findings revealed that, most respondents strongly agreed that budgetary controls provide comparisons between the budget targets and actual targets and deviation determined. It was also established that budgetary participation enhances transparency. Most of the respondents believed that parents supplement government efforts to provide facilities. It was noted that soliciting of funds from parents had significant influence on physical infrastructure development of public schools. Monitoring is critical for the public sector to make sound decisions and investments. It was established from the findings that monitoring also had significant influence on physical infrastructure development of public schools. The following recommendations should be put into consideration; Secondary school stakeholders including the principals, teachers education officers and parents should take part in BOM appointment to ensure that engaged parties are conversant with financial and other development expertise so as to ensure that entrusted persons have the right skills. BOM officials should contract experts on budgetary control to ensure that priorities are met during fund allocation in development projects. Further studies should also be carried out to establish whether there are other factors that in physical infrastructure development in public secondary schools. An all inclusive study should also be carried out on both public and private secondary schools. .en_US
