Organizations without exception are environment serving and environment dependent. They are therefore open systems that interact with their environment to secure the resources necessary for survival, adaptation and growth. Organizations policies and incentives depend on their role and functions as well as the beliefs and experiences of those who interact with them. Health care industry in Kenya is facing unprecedented trials due to the rapid external environmental changes occurring during recent years. Survival and viability of hospitals today demands appropriately deployed strategic management. Unpredictable and constantly changing competitive environment, Political, economic, social, technological and legal triggers influence hospitals management forcing them to seek entrepreneurially flexible yet stable corporate strategies. How an organization responds to changes within its environment determines its success in the industry and constitutes its strategic responses.
