The purpose of the study was to investigate the factors influencing conflict resolution in tertiary institutions. The study was based in Nyeri Technical Training Institute which is located in Nyeri town next to Green Hills Hotel. Tertiary institutions have been experiencing frequent conflicts among stakeholders. The study reviewed several literatures in line with the area of study. The review helped identify a gap in the previous studies on the fact that factors influencing conflict resolution had not been researched on effectively. The study aimed at filling in this gap in order to come up with a comprehensive insight of the relevant factors influencing conflict resolution in Tertiary institutions . Its target population was 466 elements and a sample size of 140 respondents who were selected using stratified random sampling. Data was collected using questionnaires and interviews. Confidentiality was observed to ensure data was not released to the public. Data was analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively using descriptive statistics correlation co-efficient. The findings were that when conflicts occur in tertiary institutions they are resolved using various methods. Organization structures, Gender, and cultural factors had little or no, effect on conflict resolution in NTTI, while economic factors, Government policy and Kenya education policy had positive effect. The research concluded that economic factors had the greatest effect on conflict resolution and cultural difference had the least effect on conflict resolution in Tertiary Institutions. It was also noted conflicts do affect performance. The research recommended that management of Tertiary Institutions should view conflicts positively and involve all stakeholders through effective communication and training to all those involved. This would help in creating a conducive learning environment and thereby promoting students performance and organization success.
