Factors influencing diffusion of Information Communication Technology in public secondary schools in Bonchari Constituency, Kisii County, Kenya

The study, diffusion of information communication technology sought to examine the diffusion of ICT in public secondary schools in Bonchari constituency in Kisii County. Studies carried out have majory focused the Urban setting. The research I carried out was purely rural which has a knowledge gap; that is Bonchari constituency in Kisii County one of the rural areas in a sub-urban Kisii town. Kenya education sector programme features ICT as one of the priority areas with the aim of mainstreaming ICT into teaching and learning process. The ICT use in management has not been fully utilized to enhance leanning in the Institutions. The purpose of this research is to examine the diffusion of information communication Technology in public secondary schools in Bonchari constituency in Kisii County. The research design of this study was an ex -post facto design. The target population for this research consisted of 916 student respondents from five secondary schools selected. Five principals and five ICT teachers from the five public secondary schools were also considered. Two hundred and sixty six respondents were targeted that is five principals each from the five public schools, five ICT teachers each from the five public schools and fifty one students across each stage cohort that is form 1-3 from each of the five public secondary school. A questionnaire was the main tool for data collection, since once administered it collected data after short period of time. The research study applied quantitative research methods which included both descriptive and inferential methods. The study found that personnel influenced diffusion' of ICT in public secondary schools in Bonchari constituency in Kisii County. The study found that cost and infrastructural factors caused diffusion of ICT in public secondary schools in Bonchari Constituency.' It was deduced that there is a relationship between infrastructure and diffusion of ICT in Bonchari Constituency in public secondary schools in Kisii County. The study recommends that the government makes a concerted effort to mobilize schools to adopt ICT policies which have been put in place. The government should also put up at least two centers of ICT in each constituency to ensure continuity of application' of ICT skills after school; leaders in the schools be encouraged to take up ICT use positively and the government should ensure the expansion of rural electrification to all public secondary schools.
