Factors influencing strategies used by non governmental organizations for business development of small and medium enterprises in Kenya
This study is aimed to establish the influence NGOs have in the development of SMEs in Kenya. It looks to establish the following objectives I.e. to determine the strategies adopted by nongovernmental organizations in Kenya in promoting business development of small and medium enterprises as well as establish factors influencing strategies adopted by non-governmental organizations for business development for small and medium enterprises in Kenya. The study was a survey of 25 NGOs in Kenya as at October 2010. Mail questionnaires were used to collect data. Analysis of the data gave a generalized view for comparison with literature. The findings revealed the extent to which the strategies were applied in the various non governmental organizations and measures to overcome those challenges were also established at the end to the research. The study concluded that Non-governmental organizations have a great influence in the development of small and medium enterprises in Kenya. It’s therefore the responsibility of SME owners in Kenya to establish these strategies and take advantage of them for their own benefit. The scope of the study was limited to NGOs in Kenya. However, because of the sample size used (N=25) the conclusions are therefore limited. Therefore the reliability of the method of data collection hindered the response rate thus the study recommends further research on the SME performance in relation to the NGO involvement and also recommend a similar research that will be conducted to all NGOs so as to find out whether the same conclusions will be brought out as the end of it all.
