UON records excellent performance in trade fair

H.E. President Mwai Kibaki hands over a trophy to Committe Chairman, Dr. Fred Otieno. The University of Nairobi has done it again at the 2012 Nairobi International Trade Fair by winning first position in three categories and second position in two categories. UoN received top prizes from President of the Republic of Kenya, H.E. President Mwai Kibaki for emerging the best research and education stand, the best institution of higher learning in developing advanced technology and the best stand in development research. President Kibaki also congratulated the 420 exhibitors for the different roles they play in driving the nation towards the realization of Vision 2030. The University also received 29 first prizes, 29 second prizes and 9 third prizes in the farm and produce category and was the overall supreme champion for the pigs category. The University also scored second position in the best university stand category and the best engineering based institution of higher learning category. Many departments are participating at the annual event which accords UoN a platform to share information with stakeholders among them potential students, parents and the general public on its programme and services, and its role in national development. On display at the University stands are research innovations, food crops and farm animals which are in line with this year's trade fair theme- ‘Enhancing Technology in Agriculture and Industry for Food Security and National Growth.’ Among those who visited the stand were Mr. John Simba, the Chairman, University Council and Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic Affairs among others. The week long fair will end on 7th October, 2012. UON staff display some of the food crops that garnered top prizes during the trade fair.
