    Causes of indiscipline among students in selected secondary schools in Kathonzweni District, Kenya

    Abstract
    The main objective of the study was to find out the main causes of indiscipline in secondary schools in Kathonzweni district and also offer possible solutions to discipline problems. It also aimed at finding the techniques to use in development of effective discipline in secondary schools in Kenya. The findings of the study concluded that in order to maintain good discipline in schools, students should adhere to school rules and regulations. The teachers should play their own role in enhancing effective discipline by using guidance and counseling method in schools. However the data collected in the study was coded and analyzed using both qualitative and quantitative involved presentation of the statistical by the use of frequency tables whose explanations are basically indiscipline. The results of the study indicated that indiscipline case in Public Secondary Schools in Kathonzweni district is caused by lack of guidance and counseling, peer pressure, drugs, lack of proper systems to enforce school rules and regulations, failure to involve students' opinion in school management out of others. Therefore, the school should be an institution to assist the students to achieve excellence academic performance. Students learn to respect life and keep their dignity as they grow up. The school should set clear rules and regulations for enhancing effective discipline. Moreover, in order to affect the discipline in secondary schools in Kathonzweni district, teachers should work hand in hand in guiding and counseling of the students in schools, the students opinion should also be respected by the teachers and responded to, there should also be proper systems to enforce school rules and negotiations in all the schools. Finally, the administration should not be harsh and ruthless to the students. The principals should also work together with the teachers in maintaining proper discipline in the schools. All the teachers should work towards a common goal in moulding of the students to become good citizens and leaders of our country in future.
