Abstract
Contemporary studies have demonstrated the value of strategic innovations in enhancing an organization’s response to the disruption caused by the changes in the external environment. However, there are little academic work already done about strategic innovations in relation to external environment and its effects to organizations. This therefor gives clear reasons for this study to identify strategic innovations adopted by KRA to changes in the external environment. Application of case study design and analysis enabled face-to-face interview of the senior executives hence exploring the study on the strategic innovations adopted by KRA to changes in the external environment during the implementation of its strategic plan. Findings of this study indicate that strategic innovations are already in place and used by KRA to enhance its tax revenues. The results also ascertained that the strategic innovations that KRA had adopted included tax revenue mobilization, business process, and customer and people initiatives. The research importantly adds to the strategic innovation literature by clarifying the appropriate strategic innovations to be implemented an emerging economy during disruptive changes in the external environment. The findings here recommend that a wider and exhaustive review on the strategic innovations frameworks in an ever-changing external environment.
