Supply Chain Risk Management Practices And Performance Of County Government Of Kisumu, Kenya.
Abstract
Supply chain management has recorded a great success as a competitive tool to many
organizations globally. Stakeholders in the supply chain regularly demand for effective and
efficient service delivery. Owing to the liberalization of economies, the business environment
has become intricate because of the risk factors dominant in the market, especially within the
supply chain. The objective of the study was to establish the impact of supply chain risk
management practices on the performance of County Government of Kisumu. The research
design was a case study of County Government of Kisumu. The data collection tool was an
interview guide. Content analysis was used to analyze the qualitative data collected by
conducting interviews to the respondents and secondary data obtained from the County
Government of Kisumu. According to the interviewees, it seems there was a relationship
between supply chain risk management practices and the performance of the organization,
there was no strategic plan of the organization, the organization did not have a risk
management committee, there was no risk management policy, guidance on risk
identification was not offered, financial health analysis was being done in the organization,
performance measures were not adequately communicated, risk evaluation was not carried
out, internal risk control framework did not exist. The study recommends that the
management should support the implementation of supply chain risk management strategies
and practices in the organization by approving budgetary provision for them. The
management should also prepare risk management policy and to consider forming risk
management committee.
