dc.description.abstractIn March, 1967, President Julius K. Nyerere of the United Republic of Tanzania issue statement. Education for Self-Reliance, calling for significant reforms in Tanzanian education. Nyerere's prescriptions for Tanzanian education were directed towards the creation of an educational system appropriate to an independent rural-agricultural African nation. In justifying the need for Tanzanian educational reform. President Nyerere briefly surveyed post-independence Tanzanian educational development concluding that except for a few modifications, it had continued unaltered the inherited colonial model.
