dc.description.abstract | Kenyan sugar factories have low capacity utilisation. Low overall time efficiency is attributed both stoppages due to cane unavailability and to factory problems. Apart from Mumias Sugar Factory, there is considerable room for improvement of cane preparation under, sucrose extraction, boiling house recovery and overall recovery. There is a clear need for rehabilitation as well as expansion of existing sugar factories. There is also a need for product diversification as well as expanded cogeneration of steam and electricity thereby enabling supply of electricity to tile grid Waste management requires special attention in order to comply with regulatory provisions. There is also need to establish new sugar factories not only in the existing sugar growing areas but also at the Coast. | en |
