This handbook has been prepared for clinical veterinary students and veterinary practitioners. The aim is to provide the reader with a set of standard annotations covering the basics of general pre-surgical materials and principles of veterinary surgery. The presentation covers the general requirements for any surgical procedure thus making the book particularly important for use by final year veterinary students in the operative surgery laboratory. The book includes many illustrations in the form of drawings and photographs to aid the reader’s understanding. The authors wish to thank the many people who contributed to the preparation of the manuscript. Many thanks to Jane Wairimu and Rachael Gitau who typed the initial drafts of the manuscript. Special tribute is extended to our professional colleagues who read through the manuscript. In particular, the immeasurable help and support given by Dr. John Demesi Mande and Dr. Ernest Njoroge of the Department of Clinical Studies helped to greatly improve this presentation.
