The quality of Human resources of an organization is essential to its success. Thus every organization must seek to improve the quality of its work force. One way of achieving this is through training. The importance of training can only be appreciated with a clear understanding of its direct impact on employee performance. An improvement in employee performance leads to an improvement in an organization’s performance.
The objective of this study was to determine the perception of employees on the relationship between training and employee performance a survey of the Ministry of Agriculture headquarters. To meet this objective, primary data was collected using questionnaires dropped to employees and later picked. The respondents were 10 employees on Job Group P and above, 31 on Job Groups k to N and 32 on Job Group J and below. The data was analyzed using descriptive statistics which included the mean, standard deviation and percentages.
The study established that there is a positive relationship between training and employee performance in the organization. In the ministry of Agriculture training is viewed seriously, almost all staff have undergone one type of training or the other, this is because training enhances employee motivation, career, allows employees to take higher responsibilities, enhances commitment to work and so forth. Both the senior managers and employees perceive that training is important and should be enhanced further so as to have a workforce that is able to perform effectively and efficiently.
