dc.description.abstractThe study sought to establish the factors that influence the recruitment strategies that are employed by small businesses in Kitale municipality. A sample population of 33 businesses participated in the study. A descriptive survey was conducted. Primary data was collected by use of structured questionnaire. The questionnaires were administered through the drop-and-pick-later method. Data was analyzed by use of descriptive data analysis and factor analysis. The findings of the study revealed that majority of the small businesses in Kitale municipality use internal sources of recruitment such as promotion and referrals. Furthermore, the results of the study indicate that economic conditions, financial position of a business, size, culture, business strategy, social factors, technological advancements and government/legal frameworks all influence the choice of recruitment strategies that are employed by small businesses in Kitale municipality but to varying degrees. The researcher recommends that small businesses in Kitale municipality should embrace technological developments and embrace E-recruitment as it is a cost-effective method of recruiting workers. In addition, the researcher recommends that business owners in Kitale municipality should consider outsourcing the recruiting function so that it is carried out by professional human resource personnel. This will ensure that the business enterprise get the best employees.en
