Factors influencing strategy implementation at Kenya Power and Lighting Company Ltd
Abstract
Strategy formulation and development is the development of long term plans for the effective
management of opportunities and threats in light of the organization’s strengths and weaknesses.
Effective implementation results when organization, resources and actions are tied to strategic
priorities, and when key success factors are identified and performance measures and reporting
are aligned. Effective strategy implementation and execution relies on maintaining a balance
between preventing failures and promoting success simultaneously. When there is a proper
alignment between strategy, administrative mechanisms and organizational capabilities, it will be
easier to implement and execute the strategy and to achieve the desired objectives. The objective
of the study was to determine challenges of strategy implementation at Kenya Power and
Lighting Company. The research design was a case study of Kenya Power. The data collection
tool was an interview guide where content analysis was used to analyze the qualitative primary
data which had been collected by conducting interviews from the respondents. The findings of
the study was that the challenges of strategy implementation was the culture being practiced in
the company which brought about nepotism, favoritism, unethical behaviors’ and low integrity
and change management which affects effectiveness and efficiency in service delivery, the
organizational structure which has been adopted, insufficient resources which includes financial,
limited space, communication equipment, infrastructure, human resource in terms of numbers,
physical, time, technological and equipment and working tools, and lack of communication and
lack of top management commitment
